SUPPORT THE CHILDREN

for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me

GET INVOLVED

How to help

We are cooking meals at home and then bringing cooked meals to the shelter. The shelter has the facilities to heat up your meal prior to serving.  You will not need to bring serving dishes or anything other than your meal.

You are welcome to either cook, serve, or both.  Please note that we encourage you to get your children involved in the preparation of the meal and in talking about the value of serving families that are struggling with homelessness.  However, children under 18 years old are not allowed to serve at the shelter.

If you will be serving a meal, please be at the shelter by 5:30 PM.  If your schedule does not allow for serving, but you still wish to cook, you can arrange to drop off your meal at an earlier time or day. They will store your meal for you in the refrigerator and we will serve it.  You can also arrange to have someone who is serving deliver your meal for you.

Please keep two items in mind when serving at the shelter:

1. The shelter refers to the residents as "guests."  We want to do the same as this is a nice way to promote the dignity of the folks we are serving and also it is a nice reminder that our goal is to create a friendly environment where our guests feel as if they are being treated to a nice meal.

2.  The shelter has many rules, but if we all follow this one, we will cover them all:  if a guest has any questions (other than those directly related to the meal), please refer them to the case manager from the shelter. They ask that we just keep our interaction focused on the serving of the meal itself.
